I thought I would share this lesson with you today. A portion of the Bible never hurt anyone on the contrary it can only bless us. I always feel his love and his presence as I read through the scriptures because God talks to me through his Word. I wanted to add to a post I posted while back about the Celebration of the Day of Pentecost. Pentecost is very important for every Christian that believes in our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. If you have given your life to Christ then he should have control of your life and being baptize with the Holy Ghost, can do just that and guide you to all truth to be saved. The church of Christ received the Holy Ghost in the day of Pentecost because Jesus wanted to give it to his followers that had just received his Gospel of power and love. In that day the disciples spoke in other languages that reached many that were there from other nations. And they were all amazed and marveled saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? How do we hear everyone speak in our own tongue, wherein we were born? They even said the wonderful works of God.
We will also find out that there are heavenly tongues that no one can understand and that's to edify ourselves when we pray, you can read about this in 1 Corinthians 14. The Holy Spirit not only helps us in our walk with Christ, but it is also a guarantee that we will be resurrected from our graves in that day through his Spirit that dwells with us. There are so many other benefits that we will yet see. I'm going to quote from a post I posted on face book on May 28th last year:
Hi everyone! I know it's rather late, but I couldn't let the day past without writing something about this very important day, The Celebration of Pentecost. It was that very day over two thousand years ago that the church of Jesus Christ was born. Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. After the church received the Holy Spirit, it then was baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins.
The Bible says that there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it fill all the house where they were gathered and there appeared unto them tongues as of fire and sat on each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.
The church needs the Holy Ghost today for many reasons, to make it through this touch times. It is called the Holy Spirit because Jesus is Holy, and he expects the church to also be Holy. There's a scripture in the Bible that says without holiness no one shall see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14) Jesus said we are not of this world now that he has saved us and has given us of his Spirit. So, the bottom line is, his Holy Spirit will help us not to love the world nor the things that are in the world, if any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
It also helps you hate sin and that is super important, so we won't easily fall into temptation. Have you been baptized with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in heavenly tongues since you believed? Do you have that sound from heaven that makes you want to shout Aleluya! It said there came a mighty wind from heaven. Do you have that mighty wind that makes you want to live more Holy every day? Did you know that we are the temple of God n that his Spirit dwells in Us. Well just thought I shed a little light on Pentecost, unquote.
Well, I will continue sharing my thought here. The Holy Spirit is the promise Jesus promised them when he told his disciples in Luke 24:49 And behold, I send the promise of my father upon you, but tarry (wait) ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued (filled) with power from on high. No one can say they have the Holy Spirit unless they spoke in tongues, this is the sign that the Bible gives.
There are a few occurrences where people receiving the Holy Spirit spoke in other tongues. I will state those scriptures further down in this thought. Jesus also calls the Holy Spirit in John 14:17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him, but ye know him for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you. Jesus was there with his disciples so he's saying he is the Spirit of Truth and he will be in them, meaning he will be in them when the Holy Ghost comes in the day of Pentecost.
And last, John 16:7 nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is expedient (necessary) for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will send him unto you. Jesus ascendant into heaven but came back as the Holy Spirit in the day of Pentecost and for the first time he begins to dwell in them like he had promised.
I ask you, have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? That's the question a group of believers were asked by the Apostle Paul. Just like I'm asking you today. In the book of Acts 19:1 Paul being in Ephesus, came across certain disciples that were believers of John the Baptist, and Paul asked them: Did you received the Holy Spirit since you believed? And they said unto him, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.
(Believe it or not, the devil doesn't want you to even hear there's a Holy Spirit. Christians need to receive it because it is power unto you to be a witness for Christ, it will guide you to live a closer life with God, and at the end when Jesus comes back to pick up his church, all that are in the graves, Romans 8:11-13 states But if the Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you. Therefore brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if we live after the flesh, we shall die; but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Well, I have to stop here but I want to continue on the next post.
